Donations in other currencies

Donors who do not live in your organization's country are called foreign donors. They can make donations in their own currency or in your country's currency.  For example, a donor who lives in the USA may donate to a Canadian organization in US dollars or Canadian dollars.  When you are entering or editing a donation for a foreign donor, you will see a checkbox showing the currency of their country.  Click on the checkbox if the donation was made with that currency.  For example, if your organization is located in the USA and receives a donation from a Canadian donor you will see the checkbox: CDN $.

Some donors will donate using a foreign currency even though they live in the same country as the organization. (domestic donors) For example, a Canadian donor may donate to a Canadian organization using US dollars.  For these donations it is assumed that you will add an adjustment to convert their donation to the domestic currency.  So all reports and tax receipts for such donors will be in the domestic currency. If you use a different payment method for the adjustment, then on the bank deposit report you can show that the donation was in a foreign currency by not including that payment method.

Also some foreign donors will donate using a currency different from their country's currency. For example, a donor in Venezuela may donate in US dollars.

To be able to record either of these situations, you should do the following:
1. Click on the Church or Organization icon.
2. Look near the bottom left of the window, where it says Other Currency:.
3. Put the name of the foreign currency in the box.
 For example, US $
4. A box will appear to the right of the currency name.  If domestic donors will sometimes use the foreign currency, choose Domestic.  If foreign donors will sometimes use the other currency, choose Foreign.
5. Click Save.

Then when entering donations, you will see a checkbox for the other currency you entered even if the donor would normally not use it.
