Gifts in Kind That May be Ineligible

In Canada, the following cases should be avoided as they may not qualify as a gift:
a) a company wants to donate their services to your church or organization
b) an individual wants to buy something for your church or organization

Instead, you should tell a company that your church or organization can accept donations as follows:
a) The church or organization will use their services and ask them for a bill.
b) Your church or organization will pay the bill.
c) The company can make a donation for an amount equivalent to the bill total.

You should tell an individual that your church or organization can accept donations as follows:
a) The church or organization will pay for the item.
b) The individual can then make a donation for an amount equivalent to the cost of the item.
