Using Donarius® on a network
Donarius® can be used on a network. One computer on the network will have all the data - this one is called the server. Other computers on the network will access the data on the server - these are called clients.
To setup Donarius® on a network, follow these steps:
1. Install Donarius® on the server computer. When asked what type of install you are doing, respond with Single User or Server. Restore the data from your backup disk, if you are transferring your data from another computer. Enter the activation code, if you have one, by clicking Serial Number on the main window.
2. If the server is a Windows computer, do this:
a) Find the folder with the Donarius® data. (It will usually be in C:\Donarius)
b) Right-click the folder and choose Properties.
c) Click the Sharing tab.
d) Click the Sharing... button.
e) You will be asked who to share it with - choose Everyone.
f) Click the Share button.
g) Click Done then Close.
If the server is an Apple Mac(OS X), do this:
a) Go to your Applications folder.
b) Press the control key while you click on the Donarius icon.
c) From the menu choose Show Package Contents.
d) Double-click drive_c.
e) Press the control key while you click on the Donarius folder.
f) From the menu choose Make Alias.
g) Drag and drop the Donarius Alias folder into your Documents folder.
h) Click on the Apple icon and choose System Preferences...
i) Click on Sharing.
j) Put a checkmark on File Sharing.
k) Below the list of shared folders, click on the + sign.
l) Select the Donarius Alias folder and click the Add button.
m) Click the Options... button.
n) Put a checkmark on all the different ways of sharing. This way you can share data with both Mac and Windows users.
o) Click Done and close the window.
3. Go to each client computer and install Donarius®.
a) On Windows when asked what type of install you are doing, respond with Client.
b) On a Mac when asked what type of install you are doing, respond with Single User or Server. Start Donarius®, go to the File menu and choose Setup as a client.
Find the folder on the server computer where Donarius® is installed. (On Windows you need to double-click any data file.) You do not have to enter any activation code - once the server is activated, all clients become activated.
To change a single user version to one on a network:
1. Pick one computer that will be the server. If Donarius® is already installed there then it is already setup as a server. If not then install it as a server by following steps #1 and #2 above.
2. Go to each computer that will be a client. Start Donarius®, go to the File menu and choose Setup as a client. Find the folder on the server computer where Donarius® is installed and select the folder. Donarius® will close, then re-open it.
You can now use Donarius® on the server or any client computer. However, only one person at a time can be using the software. When one person is using Donarius® and another person on a second computer tries to start Donarius® they will get a warning message that someone else on the network is using it.
A future version will enable several people to be using Donarius® at the same time.
